We teamed up with Lorie Marrero, author of The Clutter Diet, to answer some frequently asked questions about storage and organization.
Everyone needs to begin somewhere when it comes to achieving an organized space!
Question: Where do I start?
Answer: We always say you should start in the areas that are bothering you the most, to help make the biggest difference in your daily routine. Usually that means the kitchen, the home office, or the laundry room, as these are areas of heavy activity in the house. Make sure your frequently used areas are running smoothly before tackling the spaces less used.
Q: What supplies do I need to get started?
A: As a professional organizer, I have seen many piles of clutter that contain unused organizing products! Don’t run out and buy a lot of products before you know what you need, or they may become part of the problem. You can start with some heavy-duty trash bags, some paper shopping bags for sorting, some bold markers, a notepad and pen to capture ideas and tasks, and maybe a label maker. Once you sort everything and see what you have left, you can better understand what supplies you will need.
